Susan Greer

Counselor

My name is Susan Greer and I am one of the counselors at First Baptist Church. I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor and an ordained deacon. My approach to therapy is informal and collaborative with a focus on unconditional positive regard for my clients. I strive to assist my clients as they work through issues that are negatively impacting their functioning and preventing them from being their best selves. My goal is to create an environment of support and acceptance in which my clients and I can work together to draw on their strengths and combat negative self-talk. My focuses include women, men and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma or life-change crises. Additionally, I work with couples on pre-martial counseling as well as marriage counseling.

Debbie Malloy

Counselor

I specialize in treating adults suffering with trauma using the EMDR method. This form of treatment ensures that the client utilizes their unique strengths, gifts, and talents to overcome difficulty. I am trained to assess and evaluate the level, intensity, and duration of stressors leading to overwhelming anxiety and depression. Depression is complex and about many things. Counseling can facilitate the healing process to decrease the symptoms of depression. I use a warm, non-judgemental approach, and am open minded to personal values and the belief system of others. Clients need to know they are not alone.

Christina Russell

Certified Yoga Instructor

Christina became a certified instructor in 2004 and taught regularly for fifteen years. After taking a break from teaching in 2019, she is so excited to return to sharing yoga at FBCC!  Christina’s intuitive teaching style is adapted to the needs and desires of her students.  She loves creating a sense of safety and community in her classes.

In addition to being a longtime yoga instructor, she is a psychotherapist in private practice.  She brings her background as a psychotherapist to her yoga teaching, focusing on wellness and self-care for body, mind, and spirit.  For Christina, yoga is a spiritual practice, creating more space to connect with God and our own inner wisdom.

Dr. David Hughes

Senior Pastor

Dr. David Hughes accepted the call to the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Carrollton in January 2022. David’s formation is in thanks to many fine schools, employers, churches, and his family. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish at Furman University (2005), a Master of Divinity from Erskine Theological Seminary (2018) and a Doctor of Ministry at McAfee School of Theology in Church Leadership and Administration (2023). Before accepting the call to ministry in 2011, David worked for six years for non-profits in Greenville, South Carolina and Patagonia, Chile. Previously, he served as the minister to students at First Baptist Church of Augusta (2018 – 2021) and Easley First Baptist Church (2011 – 2018). Married to Rebecca in 2006, David’s amazing wife is a constant source of love, encouragement, and partnership in the ministry. The two of them welcomed their daughter Maggie in 2012 and now watch with amazement as their precious daughter continues to grow and develop. David believes firmly that The Church is a place of invitation for all where lives can be transformed by The Gospel of Jesus Christ. His passion is to create vision and lead God’s people to express the love of Christ in the world.
