A New Beginning
This season of autumn has been filled with excitement and anticipation at First Baptist – almost like a new season of Advent – a season of hopeful waiting. With the selection of David Hughes as the 33rd pastor of this soon-to-be 175-year-old fellowship, FBC has embarked on the next phase of the journey, a new beginning. As the church enters a time of Advent celebration, we do so with great hope and joy, filled with the peace that God has been with us and will always be with us every step of the way. The future looks bright for First Baptist of Carrollton, Georgia.
Forty years ago this December, Glenn walked across the platform in the chapel of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, received his diploma, and stepped in faith into a future of full-time music ministry. It was an exciting new beginning for us and our young family. Four decades have taken us to a variety of ministry settings including to FBC Carrollton 11 years ago. This church welcomed us and supported us in so many ways including adding Susan to the ministerial staff in 2014. What a joy it has been to serve together with all of you in this place!
The time has come for us to enter another new beginning. After months of prayer and serious contemplation, Glenn will be retiring from full-time local church ministry at the end of December. Susan will be completing her ministry here as well. We are excited to enter this new phase of life’s journey and we will be looking into other areas of part-time service to use our gifts and training in new ways.
In the coming weeks we look forward to celebrating Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas with our church family here. We ask for your prayers as we make this significant transition. You will always remain in our hearts and prayers!
