Beloved Church:
I wanted to take time to give you a sneak peek into this Sunday’s worship service. Our series “New Beginnings” has been wonderful thus far! Our church continues its journey in embracing this new chapter and all that God has planned! If you’ve missed any sermons, please take time to watch them on our website www.fbcc.us and catch up! Looking ahead to Sunday, I want to highlight our sermon title, scripture, as well as give a taste for what is to come! I hope this primes the spirit of worship which I pray to see on full display in our sanctuary come Sunday morning!
This week’s sermon title is “New Beginnings: Rediscovering Wonder” and our scripture will be Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-10, a scripture that I invite you to read and meditate on in preparation for Sunday’s service! Now, a short word regarding “rediscovering wonder.” It comes from my own personal observation that many have a “been there, done that” attitude regarding God. As a result, relationships with God are limited to what once was or has been. God is no longer at work in the present or crafting the future! People fail to understand that the best is yet to come! God wants so much more for us…
Awaiting us is an abundance of moments which God desires to use to inspire wonder. Wonder is our response to an interaction with the divine that frees us from past limitations and opens us to new horizons. However, to have such moments we must walk with God and be attentive to God’s voice. God can’t inspire wonder within us if we aren’t available! We have to walk with the Lord. I’ll elaborate more on how this Sunday, but for now I want to extend a challenge!
I challenge us all to do three things for Sunday as we prepare to rediscover wonder. One, bring your Bible to church (print, not digital please). Simple enough, right? Two, go to your Sunday School class (and get your youth and children to theirs) before worship at 10 a.m. Not sure which Sunday School class is your class? No problem. Call me and we will get you taken care of! Three, worship God individually by reading holy scripture in a quiet time at least once before Sunday. Use Sunday’s text and surrounding chapters as your scripture, or read from the Psalms, or get involved in one of the four Gospels in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Bottom line, read from God’s word and consider its direction.
That’s enough of a sneak peek for now! Begin working towards completing our three part challenge today as you prepare your heart to rediscover wonder but know there is so much more in store for you this Sunday! As such, reach out and invite a friend or neighbor to join you for church. You’ll be glad you did and so will they! Can’t wait to see you all!
Sincerely,
David
