Dr. David Hughes accepted the call to the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Carrollton in January 2022. David’s formation is in thanks to many fine schools, employers, churches, and his family. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish at Furman University (2005), a Master of Divinity from Erskine Theological Seminary (2018) and a Doctor of Ministry at McAfee School of Theology in Church Leadership and Administration (2023). Before accepting the call to ministry in 2011, David worked for six years for non-profits in Greenville, South Carolina and Patagonia, Chile. Previously, he served as the minister to students at First Baptist Church of Augusta (2018 – 2021) and Easley First Baptist Church (2011 – 2018). Married to Rebecca in 2006, David’s amazing wife is a constant source of love, encouragement, and partnership in the ministry. The two of them welcomed their daughter Maggie in 2012 and now watch with amazement as their precious daughter continues to grow and develop. David believes firmly that The Church is a place of invitation for all where lives can be transformed by The Gospel of Jesus Christ. His passion is to create vision and lead God’s people to express the love of Christ in the world.
Jennifer is a long-time resident of Carrollton, having moved here in 1996 to attend the University of West Georgia. She has been a part of the ministerial staff since 2003, and was the first woman ordained to ministry by this congregation in 2014. Her passion for guiding children in their faith and partnering with parents to help families grow closer to Christ is evident in all that she does. She also values spending quality time with her family. She is married to her high school sweetheart Chuck, who is the band director at Bremen High School. They have two grown children, Ethan and Jenna, and will welcome Kaitlynn into the family as their daughter-in-law in 2025. In her spare time, Jennifer loves long walks with her dog Blue and reading a good book.
Originally from North Carolina, Rev. Tyler Ingram began his ministry at FBC Carrollton in August of 2022. Tyler received a Bachelor of Music Education from University of North Carolina Greensboro (2016), and a Master of Divinity from Campbell University Divinity School (2020). Prior to arriving in Carrollton, he served as the Assistant Minister of Music at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. Tyler is passionate about creating worshipful experiences that are engaging and impactful, as well as intergenerational music ministry that expands throughout all generations.
Tyler married his high school sweetheart Ashley in 2016 who works in the health insurance industry. Their son Brooks was born in 2021 who continues to bring light and joy into their lives. They also have a golden retriever Marshall who is filled with a lot of energy and love. In his free time, Tyler enjoys spending time with his family, attending local sporting events, and playing local disc golf courses.
Rev. Bill Avery has served as Facilities Maintenance Supervisor since January 2019. Drawing on
his years of experience in technical sales and from being in the home improvement business, Bill
works hard at making sure that everything at FBCC goes smoothly. He considers his work and
service at FBCC to be a tangible part of the overall ministry of the church. As such, he does
everything in his power to help FBCC proclaim Jesus. Bill holds a seminary Master’s degree
from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and has held multiple positions in ministry. Bill loves
to talk about Jesus and his life’s verse is “He who wins souls is wise” (Prov. 11:30). Bill has
been married to his wife, Susan, for 38 years. Susan is a Christian writer and routinely writes
Sunday School curriculum. Bill and Susan have three children and five grandchildren. Hobbies
include fishing and golf and spending as much time with family as possible.
Kim is a native of Carrollton where she has resided most of her life. After graduating from
Auburn University, she began her career in marketing and administration in Columbia, SC and
later in Atlanta, GA. In the early nineties Kim was able to return to her home town where she
worked as the CFO/Administrator for Southern Therapy Services for 27 years. In addition to her
work at FBC, Kim provides financial management & administration to HARC, Inc. which is a non-
profit organization that provides housing for adults with physical & intellectual disabilities. Kim
has two children, Adam & Sarah. Sarah resides in Carrollton with her husband, Colby Houser,
and their son, Tripp. Adam resides in Birmingham, AL. Outside of work, Kim enjoys exercise,
beach trips and babysitting her grandson.
Originally from Marietta, GA, Marybeth moved to Carrollton in 2007 and now calls Carrollton home. Marybeth received a Bachelor of Music Education from Shorter College (1992), and a Master of Early Childhood Education from Berry College (1996). After enjoying a career in education, Marybeth now serves as the church Administrative Specialist. Outside of work, Marybeth enjoys gardening, crochet and piano.
Justin Tarver was born in Selma, AL, but spent his time growing up in Carrollton, GA. Justin serves as the accompanist at FBC Carrollton. He received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with an emphasis in pedagogy and a Bachelor of Music Composition from University of West Georgia (2018). He also returned to UWG and received a Master of Music in Piano Performance (2021). He now instructs the keyboard classes and also plays for both the opera and theatre department at UWG. When not playing music during rehearsal and worship, he is partaking in many musical events across the community and plays for an array of local high school and middle school choral programs.
Greg Hendrix was born and raised in Carrollton, GA. He attended Carrollton High School and University of West Georgia. Greg started studying organ when he was 18 with Patty Pritchard, and then continued his studies under Dr. Jeanine Skinner. Greg has held organist positions at several churches and started as the organist at FBC in November of 2023. Greg is also the owner of Mountain Oak Florist & Design here in Carrollton. In his spare time he enjoys concerts, playing the organ, spending time outdoors and traveling.
Mariah has been a member of First Baptist Church Carrollton since 2019 and was called to be the Mobilization Director in January of 2024. Though her background is Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech, Mariah discovered a passion for connecting First Baptist with mission opportunities in our community. She and her husband Ben are blessed with two children, Margaret (2019) and Abraham (2023), who can frequently be found with Mom at work. In addition to spending time with family, she enjoys hiking and reading.
